# Why did NBC come back? |

Granted, they were not even close to their 40% of the TV downloads in their previous partnership with iTunes. So, it seems that they were crawling on their hands and knees begging to come back. Not so, says Bloomberg. NBC returned because it got the varied pricing it wanted, 99¢ (legacy), $1.99 (current) and $2.99 (hi-def).

Bloomberg apparently is not aware of similar formats already priced accordingly.

# iTunes 8 and QuickTime 7.5.5 |

iTunes 8, features HD video, NBC content (I’m back!!!!) and a “Genius” feature that links similar musical selections together into playlists, like Pandora on the iPhone. Unlike Pandora, Apple draws information from your computer to help build the knowledge base.

Genius does not store this information on your hard drive, it sends it to Apple:

Genius is able to make playlists and give you great recommendations by periodically sending information about your iTunes library to Apple. This information will only be sent to Apple if you choose to turn on Genius.

The information sent to Apple includes details about the media in your iTunes library such as track names, play counts, and ratings. This information will be stored with an anonymous Genius ID and not linked to your iTunes Account. When using the iTunes Store or Genius sidebar, Apple will also use your purchase history to give you better recommendations.

iTunes 8 requires QuickTime 7.5.5 (as does Front Row)

# It still may happen |

In a Paul McCartney interview by Mojo Magazine the expected release to iTunes is sometime in 2009, and more important Apple and Apple Corps are agreeing it has to be done right.

In a Chicago Tribune interview in late 2007, Paul McCartney thought the release to iTunes would happen in 2008 as it was stated that the delay of early Beatles’ albums appearing on iTunes may be due to the time it takes to digitally remaster the catalog rather than the assumed legal battle between Apple Corps and Apple, Inc. The project appears to have taken longer than thought.

The Mojo article also says that all the Beatles albums, including Yellow Submarine, Magical Mystery Tour and the Past Masters albums, have been remastered, but not The Hollywood Bowl. Two albums, Rubber Soul and Revolver, will be available in three mixes, mono, original stereo and the 1987 stereo rebalances. No 5.1 mixes are planned for any of the albums.

What Goes On has the report on the interview

It may actually happen

Currently, the individual works of each of the former Beatles, John, Paul, George and Ringo are available on the iTunes Store.

The Inquirer reports the usual iPod refresh, but also MacBook and a major upgrade of iTunes to high definition video. iTunes is to also to include a playlist suggestion system. These revelations are the result of a leak of the release notes.\\

Apple may have some surprises for iPod and iTunes event on September 9, Computerworld
