# Photoshop CS3 beta intro’d |

Macworld takes a detailed look at Adobe’s Photoshop Creative Suite 3, which is the first version of Photoshop to run natively on Intel Macs.

The final version is expected to arrive with the rest of Adobe’s Creative Suite in the Spring of 2007. Users with a valid registration and serial number from one of the Creative Suite 2 digital imaging applications can use the Photoshop CS3 beta until the final version is released. Adobe Reader 8.0 has a new interface. During launch it displays a dialog box to set Adobe Reader as the default PDF reader plus a new dialog box. The new one is entitled “Beyond Adobe Reader” and clicking the button connects your computer to Adobe’s Web site and displays a tutorial start window. Microsoft’s Mac Business Unit has released updates for its productivity suite and instant messaging client—Office 11.3.0 and Messenger 6.0.1.

Here’s a quote from their web page:

This update contains several updates to enhance security and stability, including fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer’s memory with malicious code. In addition, this update includes all of the improvements released in all previous Office 2004 updates.

The Business News Source opines “Adobe upped the ante in the war of brinkmanship with Apple yesterday with the announcement of Contribute 4. At first glance it seems that Adobe has released a product that fully supports both the Macintosh and PC, but further investigation reveals that the major release is a potential ‘broad swipe’ at Apple.” More …

Macworld UK reports that Microsoft Office alternative, OpenOffice, will ship in a native version for OS X next month. ‘OpenOffice.org is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute. Until now the software has required that users install the X11 Window System, a graphical interface that lets Unix-based applications work on Macs. The new version of the software won’t require X11, and will work just like any other OS X-native application.” More ….
