Safari 3.1.2 for Mac OS X 10.4.11 patches a WebKit vulnerability.

Impact: Visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution

A memory corruption issue exists in WebKit’s handling of JavaScript arrays. Visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution. This update addresses the issue through improved bounds checking. This issue is addressed in Safari v3.1.2 for Windows XP or Vista, and systems running Mac OS X v10.5.4. Credit to James Urquhart for reporting this issue.

Available for: Mac OS X v10.4.11, Mac OS X Server v10.4.11

One more thing.

A patch (R5) for QuickBooks Pro 2006 for Mac and QuickBooks New User Edition 2006 for Mac is now available that resolves the product upgrade issues that came about over the last two weeks … Once the patch is downloaded, you will need to install it to make the patch effective. If you have manually disabled the upgrade mechanism already, we strongly urge you to apply the patch since a refresh of your preferences will recreate the issue. Installing the patch will permanently disable the upgrade mechanism so that the issue won’t occur again

There are different patches for QuickBooks Pro 2006, and for QuickBooks New User Edition 2006, both listed on the download page.

Why would one put their entire financial information in software so mismanaged. There is well tested open source routines for doing auto updates. Why does the bug exist at all?

A patch available Monday via standalone update still leaves QuickBooks vulnerable, if you run the software near a wireless hotspot. The patch had disabled the automatic update system, but it is reactivated when in range with a hotspot. Intuit states that they are working to resolve the issue and will have a patch available in the next few days. Users are urged not to run the program while within range of a wireless access point.

Computerworld is reporting a class action lawsuit:

Three businesses that lost data during the update snafu have filed a lawsuit against Intuit and have asked a federal judge to grant the case class-action status. The firms — Create-A-Card Inc. in New York, AGSJ Inc. in California and Philanthropic Focus LLC in Florida — charged Intuit with reacting slowly to news from users of the buggy update and said that they each had lost irreplaceable data.

From the Read me:

If you are upgrading from a previous version:

• The “Drag and Drop” installation method will not remove any older versions of StuffIt. Please delete any older versions of StuffIt applications manually.

• If you have difficulties with any StuffIt 12 applications. Try deleting any older StuffIt preference files from the /Library/Preferences directory and your user’s ~/Library/Preference directory. StuffIt plist files are typically named com.stuffit.xxxxxxxx.plist where xxxxxxxx is the name of the application that uses the preference file.
