Digitimes reports that $499 and below will appear in the second half of the year. Already Toshiba is offering the second generation, but lower end HD-A2 at $399. Amazon.com has it listed for $348. Prices are coming down.
The name brand higher end XA2 are still above $600, but internal drives are difficult to find. Most come as a player. Media is $20 for a single -R and $23 for RW.
Adobe has announced Creative Suite 3 (CS3), which the company is spinning as a best of collection of Adobe and Macromedia products. Now we should see a jump in Mac market share.

In Capitol Records v. Foster, in federal court in Oklahoma, a case against a mother — whose only connection to the alleged filesharing was that she was the person who paid for the internet access — has been dismissed with prejudice. Faced with the mother’s motion for leave to file a summary judgment motion dismissing the case against her, and awarding her attorneys fees, the RIAA made its own motion for permission to withdraw its case. The Court granted the motion and let the RIAA drop its case. The Court went on to hold that the defendant, Ms. Foster, is the ‘prevailing party’ under the Copyright Act and is therefore eligible for an award of attorneys fees. “With prejudice” means they can not sue her on the same causes in their complaint. “Without prejudice” means they can re-file the same case anytime. The opposite of when it first meets the ear.

The freeware, handbrake will rip a DVD to an MPEG-4 file which can be converted to iTunes and then play on a 5th generation iPod. Garry Barker does a review of handbrake on Tech.
