Nitrozac and Snaggy from the Joy of Tech comic kick off Macworld Expo week with a humorous illustration of what’s really behind a Steve Jobs keynote. The Joy of Tech comic series routinely delivers a humorous look at technology and the issues surrounding it.

Fastmac has free Macworld passes to the exhibit hall, where it’s showing some hot-rodded Macs.

O’Grady’s Powerpage.org shares a conversation he had which revealed that Apple would announce two new widescreen HDTV plasma displays at Tuesday’s keynote address at Moscone.

The Detroit Free Press declares that the ‘Great Apple Battle’ has begun. “At stake is your living room. And your car. And your pocket or purse, where you carry your mobile phone and personal media player … and even how you get music and video on them. After seemingly standing on the sidelines for the past few years as Apple Computer built a buzz through its iPod and iTunes music and video downloads, Microsoft — the world’s richest and most influential tech company — has launched the first major salvo against Apple with a dizzying series of announcements this week at the Consumer Electronics Show.”

An article in the Guardian queries former Apple employee Mike Evangelist about what it takes to make a Steve Jobs keynote go off smoothly. “To a casual observer it is just a guy in a black shirt and jeans talking about some new technology products..”

Ilene Hoffman, Macintosh Consultant and Writer, today announced that the Hess Memorial Macworld Events List is ready for public consumption. “Now in its eleventh year (20th show), the Hess Macworld Events list is the only source for every event and press function held during Macworld Expo week Jan. 9th through Jan. 13th.

Jason O’Grady has posted the odds on his ZNet blog as to what is to be announced at the Macworld Expo beginning next week. Coming in at 100:1 is OS X 10.5 and even money on a new Intel Mac Minis and iBooks.

Forbes thinks this will happen, and that Apple will also enter more new markets.

“2006 will undoubtedly mark another major year in Apple’s transformation, but its new markets bring together tougher competition,” said a Goldman Sachs research note. “If early indications from suppliers prove correct, Apple is likely to move further from its Mac core in 2006, leveraging its brand and building on the consumer success of iPod.”
