A report by Ars Technica claims that Apple will hold an iPod-specific media event on Sept 5th.

According AppleInsider, iPods to be announced Sept.5th will include an iPod version of Mac OS X, likely similar to the iPod interface in the iPhone.

iTwire reports that Apple cornered flash memory, now Apple’s need is driving price. Other manufacturers are forced to pay the price that higher demand requires. DigiTimes reports that Apple continues on a NAND flash buying spree, which restricts supply.

Sources at Taiwan memory houses indicated that Hynix and Samsung began reserving more of their stock for Apple starting from July resulting a strain on supply to other customers. Both Hynix and Samsung had informed their customers in late June that supply in July will be constrained, citing the fact that Apple is about to pre-stock NAND flash to meet the coming seasonal upturn. Hardmac reports that a journalist who requested an 80GB iPod for review from Apple received the unit – but got a call urgently requesting its return by next Friday (5/4) at the latest. In fact, all news outlets have apparently been told to return all iPod review units to their maker.

The theory is that Apple doesn’t want reviews of the ‘old’ iPod in the media anytime soon, as it is prepping the release of new models. New iPods had been predicted for Christmas, then MacWorld, last January. iPods, were then already overdue for an upgrade. More …
