Forbes: By sticking with its promise to sell 10 million iPhones in 2008 on a recent call with analysts — even as it announced sales of just 1.7 million handsets during the current quarter — the secretive Cupertino, Calif.-based computer and gadget maker made it plain that it’s about to overhaul its iPhone lineup.

AppleInsider: Long-time iPod manufacturer and current iPhone builder Foxconn Electronics has been selected by Apple to assemble the company’s upcoming 3G iPhone handset, with volume shipments expected to begin this June, says a new report out of the Far East.

# Apple acquires P.A. Semi |

The Mac web has been abuzz over what Apple must have in mind for the PPC CPU company. ZDNet suggests that, in response to the military’s request for a non-Intel laptop, the PA Semi’s dual-core, 64-bit, low-power PWRficient processor will be seen in future. This is a design based on IBM’s Power 3 CPU’s, cousins to the G5 processors.

Forbes’ initial report, for example claimed the P.A. Semi deal “could spell a new future for Apple’s flagship iPhone.” Ars Technica concluded that Apple’s move “disses Intel’s Atom”-a reference to the new low-power processor line from Apple’s chipmaker of choice.

Is it just to obtain patent rights, and the engineers who created those patent rights, as some have suggested? Apples secrecy is not strange to us. It will be a wait and see.

PC World takes a look at how differently the sexes look at cell phones. This has caused device providers to consider their market. For example, how does a woman easily find their cell phone in the dark caldrons of their purse? Would this influence the purchase of a cell phone? OS complexities will also appeal to different sexes. The iPhone and BlackBerry are leading the smart cell market due to their cross appeal.

According to Seeking Alpha, the smart cell phone race is between Apple and RIMM (BlackBerry). Palm has forgotten how to play and Android (Google) is not on the playing field. Apple’s latest announcements only tighten the battle.

According to Dow Jones, carried by Cellular-News, Taiwan’s Hon Hai Precision Industry has the contract to produce the next version of the iPhone. This iPhone is expected to be true competition for the Blueberry, with GPS and utilize AT&T 3G cellular technology. What is more important is that the iPhone, take two, will more likely be released in June. as mentioned before.

iPod Observer’s John Martellero, in a phone interview, Gartner analyst, Ken Dulaney, cited rumors from Asia, that

… he believes Apple has ordered a second round, amounting to 10 million more units, based on what he’s heard in Asian circles. This is in addition to the ten million first generation iPhones that Apple has said it will sell by the end of 2008.

Sound fishy? AppleInsider was also so informed by Gardner.

M:Metrics reports that the iPhone is already the most-popular mobile device for accessing news and information, with 85 percent of users accessing news and information in January.

The SF Chronicle names a number of game developers who are showing great interest in the iPhone and iPod Trust, that users can anticipate some fine games, “We are very enthusiastic about the iPhone as a platform and we think Apple has done it right on the hardware and the delivery platform, said Michel Guillemot, president and CEO of mobile gamemaker Gameloft. “We think from the consumer point of view, it’s going to very successful and we are eager to participate in this.”

“Developer reaction to the iPhone SDK has been incredible with more than 100,000 downloads in the first four days,” said Apple’s Philip Schiller.

The other mobile platforms now look pretty pathetic by comparison — not so much because their technologies are bad, but because their business infrastructure is so primitive, former Chief Competitive Officer and VP of Product Planning at Palm, writing for MobileOpportunity.

According to InfoWorld, SUN spent 24 hours looking at the iPhone SDK and decided they could make JVM for the iPhone. In Fact SUN did not find anything preventing them from doing so. With the iPhone being soon open, possibilities abound, including new Java technologies.
