Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 1 adds Java SE 6 version 1.6.0_05 to your Mac. This update does not replace the existing installation of J2SE 5.0 or change the default version of Java.

This release is only for Mac OS X v10.5.2 and later, and should not be installed on earlier versions of Mac OS X. This release is for 64-bit Intel-based Macs only and cannot run on PowerPC-based or 32-bit Intel-based Macs.

Computerworld’s Tom Yager MacBook Pro did die and Yager was heard to say “this would never have happened with PowerPC!”. The reason is that EFI does not contain the code to boot from an external drive (even a flash drive) or boot into target disk mode. The Intel Mac OS must be up and running to do either. The PPC Mac has a ROM which contains all the boot procedures, and would require a great deal more damage to shut this down. Intel and Apple should include such routines in EFI. More …

As indicated in the license agreement for Boot Camp Beta, the Boot Camp Beta program expires when Mac OS 10.5 Leopard becomes available publicly in October, 2007.

Boot Camp Beta 1.2 or earlier expiration
The license to use Boot Camp Beta 1.2 or earlier expires on September 30, 2007 (2007-09-30). Boot Camp Assistant Beta will no longer open after expiration.
To continue using Boot Camp Beta for Microsoft Windows on your Intel-based Mac, you’ll need to update to Boot Camp Beta 1.4, until Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is available.

Boot Camp Beta 1.3, 1.4 expiration
The license to use Boot Camp Beta expires when Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is available to the public. To continue using Boot Camp at that time, upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Apple has released Boot Camp 1.1.2. Among other things, this release is said to offer the following:

• Support for the latest Intel-based Macintosh computers
• Easier partitioning using presets for popular sizes
• Ability to install Windows XP on any internal disk
• Support for built-in iSight cameras
• Support for built-in microphones
