Too often Apple’s market share is compared to the over all market. With a world wide 2.7%, and then a US 6.1% market share, Apple’s market share would not seem to have increased. If you compared markets where Apple is actually competing, such as high end laptops, then you can see a growth in Apple market share. As reported by CNN, Fortune has Apple’s share of high end laptops at 29.4%. The problem they see is that Apple does not have much growing room, as compared to those looking at the 2.7%. The problem is AVI is mostly unsupported, as M$$$ has not released the protocols, especially the most recent versions. As mentioned before VisualHub handles AVI files and can convert them to most any media format you desire. Yet there is a cost.

A report by Ars Technica claims that Apple will hold an iPod-specific media event on Sept 5th.

According AppleInsider, iPods to be announced Sept.5th will include an iPod version of Mac OS X, likely similar to the iPod interface in the iPhone.

# AppleWorks is finally dead |

It is no longer on life support. The download page now leads you in a circle, or you are re-directed to a page that tells you the page you want no longer exists (rather than re-directing you to iWork). Some think it may still be available in the Apple Education Store, but no promises.

With iWorks ‘08, which includes a spreadsheet, it appears to be the end of AppleWorks. Last updated January, 2004, even AppleWorks User Group has moved over to iWorks. Apple has started re-directing AppleWorks links to iWork, though you can still access the AppleWorks download page.
