# iPod tells soldier he was shot |

Does Apple replace the iPod?

Apple has provided a way to add ringtones for free. This may be an attempt to tempt iPhone users not to unlock their phones, at least some, ImformationWeek describes the process:

Connect your iPhone. Open GarageBand. Create a track using Apple’s loops or compose an entire song on your own. (The possibilities are sort of endless here and opens the floodgates for highly inappropriate ringtones.) Click on the “Share” tab, and under it is a selection called “Send Ringtone to iTunes”. Click that, and it lets you select a 10-second loop of your track, mixes it, and sends it to iTunes. Once you’ve done that, simply sync your iPhone and voila! You’ve created your own ringtone.

The 1394 Trade Association has announced a new specification to increase the speed of FireWire to 3.2 gigabits per second.

The new electrical specification, known as S3200, based the IEEE 1394b standard, preserving all the advantages of FireWire while offering an unprecedented boost in performance.

The new specification uses the same cables and connectors used by FireWire 800, due to the the 1394 arbitration, data, and service protocols were not modified for S3200.

This Java update is for Mac OS X 10.4.10 and 10.4.11 (Tiger only). Includes a number of security patches and delivers improved reliability and compatibility for Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0 and Java 1.4 on Mac OS X 10.4.10 and later. This release updates J2SE 5.0 to version 1.5.0_13 and Java 1.4 to version 1.4.2_16.

Apple has released fresh Get a Mac ads, Misprint, Santa Claus, Now What and Podium. The page also has the “Top ten reasons to switch from a PC to a Mac, top ten questions, testimonials, press, guide to switching, and commercial ads from Apple Computers”.
