# Is Sherlock back again? |

Sherlock2_OS9.pngA ZDNet article emphasizes “…Sherlock is really, really dead“. The reason they felt it necessary to bring this up is a new feature in Safari, that enables the user to create Widgets of parts of a web page. Open a web page in Safari and choose “Open in Dashboard” from the Edit menu. A re-sizable and moveable window will open over some area of the page and a purple bar will appear near the top of the web browse with instructions. I made a Widget of the calendar from Stanslist.net and clicking on any date took me to those articles. Ok, not as useful as the calendar on the web page, but it was an example of what I could do.

A lot of this reminds me of OpenDoc, a project centered, rather than an application centered project

Bloomberg is predicting the sub-MacBook and a 3G iPhone at Macworld SF. The iPhone is what no one has thought of. The sub-MacBook is a given. Anything is possible, but none of the more reliable sites have any information about a 3G iPhone. It is coming, but more likely a June or July, but it would be sweet. More or less …

# Army to incorporate more Macs |

Totally in response to the recent and damaging hacks, Macs do not look so expensive when compared to how little they are attacked. Also, the UNIX core makes it easier to lock the Mac down against attack. Thursby Software is developing software that will enable the Mac to use the security keycard-reading system known as Common Access Cards system, or CAC, used by the military. This would remove the main hurdle to Macs being a real alternative. More …

Critical vulnerabilities have been identified in Adobe Flash Player 9.0.48.0 and earlier, 8.0.35.0 and earlier, and 7.0.70.0 and earlier. To avoid the vulnerability, Adobe recommends upgrading to Flash Player 9.0.115.0. This update was mentioned earlier this month. For those not running Mac OS X, a patched version of Flash Player 7 is available.

If put your Mac into sleep mode, why would it sleep when you are playing a movie? This KB article ecplains why your Mac might not go to sleep when you expect it to, or why it might not stay in sleep mode. More …

AppleInsider writes that Apple has already begun seeding OS X 10.5.2 Leopard to developers.

10.5.2 is described as one of the most ‘hefty’ maintenance updates Apple has released in some years, already weighing in at 354MB for build 9C7.

The build deals with a raft of issues and apps, including the Dock, the Finder, grammar checking, iCal, iChat, Mail, Parental Controls, Quick Look, Rosetta, Safari, Time Machine, and Leopard’s 802.11 AirPort implementation.

The release will likely be not before middle to late January, as there are new products to be announced at Macworld SF.

Insanely Great Mac ponders whether this is just Apple’s way of implicitly acknowledging there were some flaws with the original Leopard release? The stories that 10.5 was released to hit a product deadline, not a quality control benchmark, are beginning to make sense.

PRESS RELEASE: Apple and Think Secret have settled their lawsuit, reaching an agreement that results in a positive solution for both sides. As part of the confidential settlement, no sources were revealed and Think Secret will no longer be published. Nick Ciarelli, Think Secret’s publisher, said “I’m pleased to have reached this amicable settlement, and will now be able to move forward with my college studies and broader journalistic pursuits.

It is well known that Nick Ciarelli (aka Nick DePlume), a loyal supporter of Apple, wanted to pursue his continued education.
