# iPod with Video Software 1.2.2 |

The documentation briefly states the update contains bug fixes. Open iTunes, connect your 5G iPod and check for updates.

With it expected Friday, it fair to say the update has finally arrived. Available only through iTunes. There likely will not be a standalone installer. Reports from Europe of the 1.1.2 update this weekend stated that overall speed had increased, additional keyboard layouts and more editing options. There is also good and bad news. The update repairs a TIFF exploit that could have allowed execution of arbitrary code. The bad news is that the TIFF exploit was the method Jailbreak used for entry.

Apple has gathered the KB articles that deal with installation, startup, or login issues. Having this on one page avoids having to hunt them down. Hopefully, if need be, you will be able to access this page. Otherwise, I suggest go to each article and print it out and put it away for reference. More …

# iPhone lands in Europe |

Well, the UK and Germany. According to Reuters, the crowds began gathering Thursday and over 10,000 iPhones were sold by Friday afternoon. One noticeable change was T-Mobile personnel handed out blankets and umbrellas with hot tea, coffee and pretzels (warm I hope). The euros price was equal to $585 US in Germany and $568 in the UK, This is predicted to keep the market limited. More …

After the initial rush, will Apple then move the market along by reducing the price and tick off the early adopters? If they do, we have their SOP

The Evan Series confirms what electronista reported in September. electronista came across media rental terms when trying reporting an iTunes error to Apple. They were among list of actions to tell Apple what he was doing at the time of the error. Even DiBiase of The Evan Series dove in iTunes’ code and found the following:

• rental-content
• rental-bag
• rbsync
• source-rental-info
• dest-rental-info
• getvodaccountselectionlist
• GET VOD ACCOUNT SELECTION LIST
• supportsRentals

Twice I have used total shutdown to fix what appears to be OS corruption. Once, I could not play any music. Another time the battery was lasting only a day. Both times a total shutdown returned the iPhone to normal operation.

The iPhone OS has a subset of  Mac OS X 10.5. so corruption should not be a surprise, and not just because of 10.5. Those that basically keep their iPhone turned on (only one click on the power button) will experience disruption in normal operation. Holding down the power button longer will active the total shutdown. This will cause a total reset or restart. Click the power button and you are back in operation.

The Hard Drive Update 1.0 includes bug fixes and important updates for the following systems: iMac Core 2 Duo (Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later) and Mac Pro (Mac OS X 10.4.7 or later)

To complete the firmware update process, please follow the instructions in the updater application (/Applications/Utilities/Hard Drive Update 1.0.app). The updater will launch automatically when the Installer closes.

The update may state it is not required, as it is not for all iMacs or Mac Pros that would appear to qualify.

Microsoft’s Office 2004 11.3.9 fixes an issue that causes Word 2004 to quit unexpectedly when you print a document, patching the Microsoft Component Plugin and WordPDE.plugin files. Download page.

Office 2004 11.3.8 update is required as a prerequisite.
