Used two iPhone credits which makes the family pack an extra special deal. If you have two to five installs, the family pack is $199. Do the math
The install seemed to take a while, yet this a a huge install. After re-booting I started up Pages and worked on a family project, but Pages would quit. After the second time, I re-booted with DiskWarrior and it found numerous errors. Fixed, I restarted and everything was fine. DiskWarrior even found and fixed the same errors on my external backup drive. I should have disconnected the drive prior to installing 10.5, so I am lucky, sort of. I have never had a OS install go bad. If I had thought about it though, I would have disconnected that backup drive which would have enabled 10.4.10, if necessary .
The Dock seems more crowded, but I can not find any extra icons, except Time Machine. Front Row is install and requires only a double-click. I had the hacked Front Row 1.0 and you have to double-click while holding down the esc key. It was useful several times. Now I have the real thing. Not sure if I like the transparent Dock background. I use a vertical Dock on the left side (left handed).and Stacks will only work with a bottom Dock.
As reported elsewhere, the Finder is much faster. Every operation snaps. I have a dual 2.7 GHz G5 Power Mac, and with the Finder using multi-threaded procedures and increased 64 bit operation, this is not surprising.
The Desktop has notable changes. Both the background the the Dock and the menu bar are transparent. I thought the menu bar had shadows, but I realized it was my desktop picture showing through. I do not care for the generic folder icon. You can change the icon of any folder, using the Classic OS method of getting information and pasting the icon of your choice. Did I say that Stacks does not work from a vertical Dock?
I do not have a drive to use for Time Machine, therefore I have not turned it on. Cover Flow is an outstanding way to view files, so fluid. I just enjoy the snappiness of every operation.
It is a keeper..
