Camino 1.1 will have a number of new features, most of which have been fully implemented in this alpha release. Camino is Mac only, and does not have to compromise as Firefox does being cross platform. The developers feel this alpha release “is usable on a day-to-day basis and is a large improvement over Camino 1.0, but you may still experience bugs and some functionality may not work entirely as intended.
The following major features have been added to Camino 1.1 Alpha 2 and will be in Camino 1.1 when it is released. The full release notes are also available.
Note: Some of these features are not yet completely implemented.
* Keychain interoperability: Camino can now read passwords stored in the Keychain by Safari and will use Safari passwords if no passwords have been saved for the site by Camino.
o Camino versions older than 1.1a2 will not be able to read passwords modified or created in Camino 1.1a2 or later versions.
o Using “Reset Safari” will delete any passwords saved by Camino 1.1a2 or later that have been used in Safari.
* Window Zooming: The Zoom command now resizes the window to fit the current page’s content instead of making the window full-screen.
* Session Saving: Camino now has a preference to save a list of all active tabs and windows on quit and will periodically save the list while browsing (this feature is not yet exposed in the the user interface).
In addition, Camino 1.1 Alpha 2 includes the following notable bug fixes over Camino 1.1 Alpha 1.
* Spell-checking: Control-clicking on a misspelled word now selects the word and properly offers spelling suggestions.
* Bookmarks Backup: Camino now makes a backup copy of the bookmarks file on startup if the file is not corrupted and tries to use a backup copy of the bookmarks file if the original bookmarks file appears to be corrupt on startup.
* Bookmarking Single Pages: Camino 1.1a2 fixes an issued introduced in Camino 1.1a1 which sometimes prevented bookmarking single pages.
* Pop-up Blocking: Camino 1.1a2 fixes an issue in Camino 1.1a1 where pop-ups were sometimes blocked without showing the pop-up blocker. In addition, text and buttons in the pop-up blocker now wrap properly in small windows.”
