I asked Lynn Fox, Apple’s director of Mac public relations, two very direct questions. 1. Are Apple MacBook users at risk using their built-in Wi-Fi capability? 2. Is Krebs’ Washington Post report about Apple pressuring researchers not to reveal a MacBook Wi-Fi vulnerability/exploit accurate? I’ve received no response to that query. Nor do I expect one. Why don’t the researchers disclose what they know anyway? They are not, as far as we know, on the payroll of Apple or the hardware vendor making the Wi-Fi gear. Gizmodo reports on the price drop in Apple Cinema Displays, and an increase in some models’ brightness.

The 20-incher drops $100 to $699, and now glows at 300 candle-power per meter squared (cd/m2) instead of 250cd/m2. The 23-incher, which we think is the perfect size for monitor hungry but not-so-rich geeks drops a whopping $300 to $999, and gets a significant boost to its backlight to 400 cd/m2 (from 270 cd/m2.) And the big poppa 30-inch display drops $500 to $1999, although it doesn’t get any brighter. More …

Single of the Week

This UK five-piece may be full of young hipsters, but they’re not hip in the traditional sense. There’s no ’80’s post-punk revival going on here; the Feeling find their inspiration in big, orchestral rock somewhere between 10cc, Steve Miller Band and Electric Light Orchestra. The infectious, hypnotic track Sewn is the “free” Single of the Week.

The “three crowns” referenced in this group’s name do not allude to a round of brews for the boys—it actually stands for South America, the United States and Europe, where the trio’s roots are found. With a strong Latin style integrated seamlessly into a hip-hop flow, Mi Tumbao stands strong as this week’s “free” Discovery Download.
